Natural Living - The Future of Island Interior Design

While we are on the topic of the New Year, was one of your resolutions to beautify your home and live in harmony with your surroundings? Natural Living is the perfect way to keep your home’s design up to date and help you create a home that is sustainable for its environment. Are you worried about cost and time? Natural Living can be as simple as a wall color or accessory change.
The historical purpose of Natural Living was to orientate buildings, in an auspicious way, such as near bodies of water, as one of the ways to help create good energy .
Today, Natural Living still helps us create good energy within in our homes and our lives and helps us to eliminate the bad energy .
Before starting your Natural Living design project you must first clean the bad energy from your home – in other words clean up your mess. It is also important to make sure your home has good quality air and plenty of light.
The easiest way to jump into Natural Living is to start with the five elements, which are wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The elements flow in productive and non-productive cycles. When used in the productive cycle the elements can be used to create health, harmony and prosperity in your life, as well as a beautiful functional home. The elements can be incorporated easily and inexpensively into your interior design through the use of color, furniture position, textures and accessories or art. The elements can also be used to strengthen and weaken other elements in homes where a piece of the home cannot be changed.
The elements have corresponding colors. Colors for the wood element are green and brown; fire is red, orange, pink and purple; the earth element is light yellow and light brown; metal is grey and white; and the colors for the water element are blue and black. For example, in your living room you can incorporate a natural brown, wood coffee table or a green pillow on a couch to bring health and vitality into your life.
Incorporating furniture position is easily explained with bedroom furniture. In the bedroom your bed should be on a substantial wall so you can see the doorway but the bed should not be aligned right with the door. To achieve balance, place a night table on each side of the bed.
When using accessories in interior design remember never to have a mirror facing your main entryway door, this is one of the biggest no no’s of Natural Living as it pushes all the good energy out the door. A positive accessory to place in your garden that adds protection and lovely music would be wind chimes. For the kitchen a tabletop fountain is an inexpensive way to add not only peace but a good way to play with different textures of clay or rock and add terrific water energy.
